The Priority of Prayer

As part of our adventures, everyday we've been doing a three thirds group. An element of this has included looking back at the previous day and writing the blog which has not only been a great tool for sharing our experiences with others but will be crucial to us remembering what God has done during this time.  In the looking up section we had a simple discovery Bible study, before looking forwards at what we could put into practice or share with others.

We were late in realising that BMS Guesthouse has a 50 year old prayer room.  Visiting for the first time today, we met a man who told us they currently have 4 people volunteering from 9:30am until evening praying continually in that time for regions of India, and prayers for the world.  We were impressed by their diligence, excitement, emotional depth, joy and persistence of prayer. They will be particularly including Yorkshire in their prayers 7-8am GMT daily.  They pray here despite the persecution they receive in their own villages.  This man in particular, makes a 2 hour round trip each day to spend time in this prayer room.  When asked how he manages without paid work, he shrugged and said God provides.  We went to battle in prayer for them using scripture and Tracy shared Psalm 17; a prayer for justice and protection. And they too prayed for the spiritual break through of growth in the UK.  The prayer room was a thin place; our own personal Zion (a thin place is a place where heaven meets earth with a thinner veil.  Zion representing a mountain top experience patterned on Jesus' example of going up the mountain to pray).  This prayer room made us think of the 24/7 prayer movement which some of our churches have been exploring and some of us can see how well Biglife and 24/7 prayer would fit together.  We noted 2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." which, for a time, was on the wall in one of our prayer rooms. This we found significant.

YBA Discipleship Pathway

In January 2025 two teams from Yorkshire will be heading to India as part of the year long Discipleship Pathway.  Over the course of their visit they will have an immersive experience in the Biglife Disciple Making Movement (DMM).  This movement is just over 21 years old and has seen significant growth since that its beginnings.  The experience should inspire hearts as the teams see and hear of what the Lord has done.  Then, it should inform minds as together the team reflect on the Biblical principles at work in India and consider how they can be applied in the UK context on their return. Please pray for the teams, that this will be an inspiring and transformative experience.

Reflections on a day in a village

Four of the team share their reflections: I discovered that the village that we visited yesterday did not have a name, as it was a relatively new settlement.  Names are a central part of our identity.  When someone asks who we are, we tend to give our name first.  So, not having a name implies a lack of identity.  In Isaiah 43 vs.1 we read that God has called us by name – he knows who we are, he sees our identity.  I was reminded of how God both sees me and also sees others individually and also those in the town with no name – they are not nameless to him, but loved by him.
